Grad School Week #1
I started my classes this week at Emerson. My courses are here. Some thoughts on possible approaches to my program are here and here.
My Research Methods in Media Arts course is a survey focused primarily on the interview process for media producers. The course includes a life history project and a focus group project.
My second course is Foundations of Image and Sound Production. It is focused on image, video, and sound production, including lighting, editing, and the pre-production process. My first project is telling a story in a least 15 photographs, due next class.
My third and final course is New Media Production 1. I’m most excited about this one. It should provide me with a solid foundation in the areas of web design and producing video for the web. We’re learning Dreamweaver right now and working on setting up our webpages.
In all three courses, the emphasis is on the pre-production process. When I worked as an audio engineer and producer full-time, I always believed that pre-production was key for musicians in the studio. It was also was the most exciting part of me. I had the opportunity to work through musical and structural ideas with the artists and help them realize their goals. I’m looking forward to transferring this experience and building on my skills as a audio, video, and web producer.
Off to great start.
